DE ZALMSCHOUW

Vroeger was de drijverschuit het meest bekende zeilende vissersschip van de Beneden rivieren. De drijverschuit, ook wel drijver, zalmdrijver of zalmschouw genoemd, werd eertijds vooral gebruikt voor de drijfnetvisserij op zalm. De naam zalmschouw schept nogal eens verwarring omdat het scheepstype niets gemeen heeft met de schouwen. Deze hebben een platte voor- en achterspiegel, terwijl bij de drijverschuiten het vlak in de voorspiegel geheel oploopt het achterschip spits toeloopt. Tot het einde van de vorige eeuw werden de drijverschuiten van hout gebouwd.
